Evernote is a great note-taking app, which has been around for a while now and is recognized as one of the best note-taking apps in the market. This blog will cover the Evernote Android app’s good and bad.
1. User-friendly UI (User Interface)
Evernote has updated their home page and the sidebar. The traditional bottom center button to create a new note and other stuff has been removed.
Now you can see that they have given two separate buttons for notes creation and tasks respectively.
Below, other options for notes are placed like the camera, scanner, files attachment, audio and sketch.
Then you have your scratch pad and at the very bottom now you have separate tabs for your notes, notebooks, tasks and calendar. The home page by default is the create tab.
The sidebar has also been customized as the notes and other options have been moved to the home page. Now you can change the settings for the specific option you want to.
You can see the older interface below and tell me if you like the newer interface or the older one in the comments.

2. Free Version Available
This note-taking app comes with a free version where you get some limited specs but, that is not that bad at least for an individual. The free version has no time limit so, one can use the app for free (as long as the developers keep it the way it is). The free version is quite handy if you are one of those who gets overwhelmed by looking at so many features.
3. Integrations
You can integrate your existing tools and services into your Evernote app, like Google services or Microsoft Outlook or Teams. This feature comes in very handy when you have data scattered around different cloud storage. You can also integrate your Slack account into it.

The Bad
1. Pricing
Now if you are an individual then the freemium features are good enough to satisfy one’s need. But if you want to work along with a team then you have to upgrade to a premium version of the app.
Evernote offers a personal and professional plan and also a plan for teams. You can check the table below with basic features compared along with their prices.
PERSONAL | PROFESSIONAL | TEAMS | |
Notes/Notebooks | UpTo 100,000/1,000 | UpTo 100,000/1,000 | UpTo 500,000/10,000 |
Monthly Storage | 10 GB | 20 GB | 20 GB + 2 GB Per user |
Max Note Size | 200 MB | 200 MB | 200 MB |
Price | 14.99$/month 129.99$/year | 17.99$/month 169.99$/year | 24.99$/month 249.99$/year |
All these plans provide unlimited device support which is a game changer for people who want to work on a big scale of things.
NOTE: Prices and features are subject to change upon the company’s will. Please check the official site’s page for any changes.
2. Limited specs for the freemium version
Now as we talked about the free version earlier it is good enough for an individual, but the specs are very limited. You can sync your notes across two devices only.
This could be any combination of two devices, such as a phone and a computer, two computers, or a phone and a tablet. There are other limitations in the free version. like integration with other platforms, for example, Slack or Google Calendar to sync your schedules.
3. Not a project management tool
Evernote is basically a note-taking and organizing app, and while it can be customized to work as a basic project management tool, it may not be as powerful or efficient as a dedicated project management system like Asana, Basecamp or Microsoft Project.
Here are some reasons why Evernote might not be suitable as a project management tool:
- Lack of advanced project management features
- No custom workflow
- Limited collaboration options
- Scalability issues
These are some of the reasons which make Evernote not suitable as an alternate for a project management tool.
Conclusion
Evernote has come a long journey to this point in time and is still considered one of the best options for note-taking apps which the market has us to offer. Every product or service has its pros and cons, and Evernote is no exception.
I have also covered a blog comparison between the Notion Android app and Evernote which will give you a more clear view of both the note-taking Android apps.
